Dr. Rapaport’s office and Coolspa are thrilled to announce that we now offer Cellfina™ to add to our line of cool treatments that work in our New York Plastic Surgery office! Cellfina™ is a new, FDA approved technology for the minimally invasive treatment of cellulite. This revolutionary treatment is clinically proven to significantly improve the appearance of cellulite. Follow up studies have shown results to be durable at two years, and we have reason to expect these results to be permanent.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is caused by the herniation (bulging) of fat through fibrous connective tissue (fibrous septae) under the skin. These fibrous septae anchor the skin to the underlying tissue (this causes the dimples), while the fat pushes through. This can lead to a dimpled, wrinked appearance to the skin that many women are familiar with. The cause of cellulite is not yet completely understood: a wide variety of factors including hormones, genetics, and metabolism may play a role in its formation.
Who Gets Cellulite?
Cellulite is much more common in women than men, and it is estimated that up to 90% of post-pubertal women will experience cellulite at some point in their lives.
How Does Cellfina™ Work?
The Cellfina™ System treats the primary structural cause of cellulite—the connective bands woven throughout fat in the thighs and buttocks. These tight bands pull down the skin, creating the puckering you see on the surface of the skin. Similar to a rubber band under tension, once released, the treated skin bounces back to smooth itself out.
Cellfina™ does not involve general anesthesia or prolonged downtime. It relies on a minimally invasive, small needle-sized device to cut the cellulite-causing bands just beneath the surface of the skin.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients see cellulite reduction in as little as 3 days.
How Effective is Cellfina™?
In the pivotal study, patient satisfaction was 85 percent at three months, 94 percent at one year and 96 percent at two years, surpassing the patient satisfaction rates of other leading cellulite treatments.*
*Satisfaction rates were evaluated separately and are not based on direct comparisons among treatments.
Is There Any Downtime?
While most patients can return to their regular activities within 24 hours, there may be some soreness and bruising. These side effects resolve quickly with time. The most common side effects reported by patients in the FDA‑cleared pivotal study were soreness, tenderness and bruising. Just three days after treatment, patients rated their pain as minimal (2.7 on a scale of 0 to 10; 0=no pain, 10=extreme pain) and most (82 percent) felt pain only with touch or pressure to the area treated. This minimal pain improved quickly with time. More than 90 percent of patients had no bruising at four weeks.
At Coolspa, we are committed to offering our patients the full array of cutting-edge treatments to help them achieve their body contouring goals. The addition of Cellfina™ allows us to offer something we’ve never been able to before – a proven, effective, and long-lasting treatment for the improvement of stubborn cellulite.
Why Should I Have My Treatment at Coolspa?
Unlike Medspas where you may be seen by a consultant driven by commissions to make sales, at Coolspa your cellulite evaluation and treatment will be performed by New York Plastic Surgeon David Rapaport, who has been performing body contouring for over 20 years.
Cellfina™ is a minimally invasive procedure treating the superficial fatty layers under the skin. This is an area in which Dr. Rapaport has been practicing for decades. In contrast, dermatologists are trained to treat skin and have little to no training or experience in body contouring, and treatments of the layers underlying the skin that cause cellulite. It simply makes sense to have an expert in body contouring providing your body contouring cellulite treatment.
